Southpaw is a 2015 American sports drama film directed by Antoine Fuqua, written by Kurt Sutter and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker and Rachel McAdams. The film follows a boxer who sets out to get his life back on track after losing his wife in an accident and his young daughter to protective services. The film was released on July 24, 2015, by The Weinstein Company.The film marked one of the last films to be scored by James Horner, and one of three posthumous releases to feature his music. The film and the film's soundtrack album are dedicated to his memory.

Billy "The Great" Hope (Jake Gyllenhaal), the reigning junior middleweight boxing champion, has an impressive career, a loving wife and daughter, and a lavish lifestyle. However, when tragedy strikes, Billy hits rock bottom, losing his family, his house and his manager. He soon finds an unlikely savior in Tick Willis (Forest Whitaker), a former fighter who trains the city's toughest amateur boxers. With his future on the line, Hope fights to reclaim the trust of those he loves the most.

It can be considered as one of the best boxing movie which was successful in blending the game spirit and emotions in a really good portions. It is not only talking about his boxing career , but also is a journey through his personal life. It is also showcasing the emotional breakdown of the character when he faces some problems in his personal life and how he managed to rise above all these problems. Every second of the movie seems inspirational to me and the actors were successful in presenting a descent performance. Moreover, the emotional scenes in the movie can bring some tears to the eye.
