Erin Brockovich is a 2000 American biographical film directed by Steven Soderbergh and written by Susannah Grant. The film is a dramatization of the true story of Erin Brockovich, portrayed by Julia Roberts, who fought against the energy corporation Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E). The film was a box office success, and critical reaction was positive. Roberts won the Academy Award, BAFTA, Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and various critics awards for Best Actress. The film itself was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Director for Steven Soderbergh at the 73rd Academy Awards. He won that year, but for directing the film Traffic. Early in the film the real Erin Brockovich has a cameo appearance as a waitress named Julia.
Erin Brockovich (Julia Roberts) is a woman in a tight spot. Following a car accident in which Erin is not at fault, Erin pleads with her attorney Ed Masry (Albert Finney) to hire her at his law firm. Erin stumbles upon some medical records placed in real estate files. She convinces Ed to allow her to investigate, where she discovers a cover-up involving contaminated water in a local community which is causing devastating illnesses among its residents.
In my opinion it is a must watch movie. It is showing how an ordinary woman overcome his life filled with difficulty and misery and how she ace in the world of law with her dedication and hard work. It is inspiring throughout and lift up your heart and mind. The performance presented by Julia Roberts is of Oscar winning standard. The direction and screenplay are of top class and superior quality. The movie is not boring with just serious plot but also mixing in a bit of humor throughout in an elegant way. Starting off with a slow pace , the movie finds its optimum pace towards the first half and clenches the attention of the viewers throughout.
